SIXPENCE A WORD CABLES.
AN INTERESTING SUGGESTION
(United Press Association. —Copyright.) Received 11.30 p.m., Oct. 30.
LONDON, Oct. 30
In the House of Commons, Mr Redmond suggested a deferred system of messages to Australia of ten words for 55., carrying a delay of 48 to 72 hours, or longer.
The Hon. Samuel replied that negotiations with the Pacific Cable' Board and cable companies were nearly completed. He hoped that a cheaper system of week-end messages would be introduced, though it was impossible to fix the charge as low as Mr Redmond suggested.
