A SHAFT RE-OPENED.

HOBART, October 29

The North Mt. Lycll shaft has been re-opened. The smoke issuing is apparently less, the increased amount of vapour carrying carbon and monoxide. "The shaft will be left open until there is a perceptible change one way or the -other. It la impossible to decide whe~ ther the fire is out, but -a definite indication is honed for shortly.

Work is progressing favourably at the company's Uomstock mine. Ore from the Comstock, with the Tharsis and Mt. Lyell mines, will keep the smelters employed until normal conditions are re-established.
