WANGANUI AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.

In glancing through the schedule of the Wanganui Agricultural Association, wo were much struck by the thoughtfulness of the committee in catering po well for the- children of the district by providing such a number of classes in Home Industries, Produce, Art, Technical and Public School classes. "Industry is a, treasure." This well-worn adage occurred to us as we read through tho classes, and not only are we not surprised at the great interest that has been taken in this part of the Show, but we wonder that a far greater interest is not taken in it, for assuredly there is a class there for everyone— boy or girl, big or small, as wel! as every man, woman or child. There are classes for plain and ornamental writing, freehand drawing, (painting, modelling, carving, beaten brass-work, and, coming to the more practical part, »vo ccc that Mr. James Thain offers a handsome gold medal for the best set of en sneers' tools. Mr. Robert Russell kindly gives a special prize of one guinea for the best sheet of architectural drawing, and another guinea for the btst exhibit of modelling from tho antiqueTurning to the domestic side, there are classes for every description or fancy work -and plain sewing, whilst the thoroughly domesticated girl, "that much appreciated species," has a score or m>xo different opportunities of showing her prowess. And not only is there tr-e honour and glory of {+■ all, 'but the Association have provided a very liberal rrizeJtst. For instance, thanks to Messrs. Hannah and Oo.'s generosity, the maker of the first prize Christmas cake vms a two guinea prize. iMr. Osward Lewis donates one guinea to the nexts, bost. Mr. J. V. Bins: skives a special of■ ore guinea for tho best iced and ornsmoVtnl cuke. MrC I. Wray, mindful, of thatbest of all Christmas attributes, donates a, guinea to the girl who makes ihe best plum pudding. In addition to the above-mentioned prizes, Mr. J. A. .Wash gives_ a handsome sterling silver cup as a paints prize in the Home Industries classes. Tho Association deserve the support of everyone, and all those who have- not receiyed a programme, we would recommend to write right away to Box 152 orrin«r up 'Phone 222, and'tho Secretary will ho pleased to past yo;i a programme.
