J. H. Board, who is under engagement as coach to the Hawke's Bay Cricket Association, arrived in Wellington by the Tainui from .uondon yesterdayHe is accompanied by his eon and daughter. Board leaves by the Monowai to-morrow for Napier. With the many friends of Mr G. D. Braik, we sincerely sympathise with him in the death of his brother, who passed away at Dunedin on Saturday afternoon as the result of a motor car accident some months ago. Mr Braik left for Dunedin yesterday to attend tie funeral.

At the "Wanganui Herald" Office on Saturday the presentation of a handsome kit bag, was made to Mr J. King, who is taking up a position with the Brett Publishing Company, of Auckland. Mr H. V. Duigan, who made the presentation, referred to the recipient's popularity amongst the members of the staff, and wished him every success in his new sphere of work.

A Press Association message from Blenheim states that Hari Rore, a chief of the -gatirarua tribe, died somewhat suddenly at the Wair.au Pah. He was aged 59 years, and was a man of exceedingly obese proportions, for several years< being unable to walk. He leaves a widow, but no children. , His brother, A. Eore, the well-known racing man. His grandfather on his mother's side was Captain Blenkinsopp, a well-known old whaler, who is recorded to have purchased the \Vairau plain with an old cannon. A big tangi will be held.

A pleasant little function took place " round the stone" in the establishment of A. D. Wiihs, Ltd., on Thursday last. The occasion was a presentation to Miss M. Young .by her fellow employe^, and aleo one from the firm. After a number of years' faithful service Miss Young has severed her connection with, the firm to enter the bonds of matrimony. The presentations were, from the firm a handsome set of brushes, and from the employees a dinner service and <a dainty set of salt cellars. Mr Alf. Willis, in presenting them, expressed his high appreciation of Miss Young's services, and was sorry to lose a good worker. He sincerely wished her health and prosperity in her new sphere. On behalf of Miss Young, Mr J. Brine, foreman of the binding department, thanked Mr Willis for his kind remarks and splendid gift, and ail who so cheerfully contributed towards tho presentation.

During ithe Wlanganui East ißoy Scouts' concert on Friday evening, District Commander J. Scott, who has been promoted to a responsible position at the Addington work shops, was the recipient of a small token of the esteem and appreciation with which the Wanganui East troop have towards their Chief Scoutmaster. The presentation took the form of an enlarged photo of the whole troop of officers and Scouts, very nicely mounted, inscribed and framed. District Commissioner Major MoNaught sent a letter asking Inspector Brine to present the photo for him and to convey to Captain J. Scott his high regard and appreciation of the noble and selfsacrificing work he was engaged in with the boys, and to the high standard of efficiency attained by the boys under his control. Mr Scott was taken completely by surprise, and expressed his thanks to the boys in very feeling and affectionate terms, Roping that the would grow up to become useful and honourable cftizens, and that their Scout-craft would be an important means to that end.
