"THE DUSTERS."

AMERICAN ESCAPEE SOUGHT FOR. IN-SYDNEY. SYDNEY, Sept. 28. Sydney possesses the unenviable reputation of being the happy hunting ground of American "crooks" of various degrees of lawlessness. A number havo already been firmly told to "get off;" nevertheless, quite a gang still re-mains,-and its numberg are being augmented with tho arrival of each American liner.

It is thought that the latest addition to the ranks is a man who broke out of New York central prison one Sunday night in July last, after firing several shots at his pursuer. The desperado, who is of the masked burglar type, has it ia thought by the Now York Police Department, possibly gone to Australian* The Inspector-General of Police (Mr. E. C. Day) has accordingly been warned by the American authorities who are offering a substantial reward for the man's arrest. Tho man is described as being 27 years of age, sft. 9£in. high, good build, light complexion, brown hair, thin in front, blue eyes, bulging forehead, small pointed nose. An American flag is tattooed on the right forearm, and tho American eoat-of-arms on the left. The escape of the prisoner from New York prison was of a sensational character, and quite a number of shots were fired at tho desperado, who returned the fusillade. Although young, he is noted for his gun work, and was a member of the American criminal organisation that is known as "Tho Dusters." Superintendent Roche has instructed his officers to leave no stone unturned in an endeavour to trace the escapee.
