(United Pr^^i; Association —Copyright.) Received December 11, 12.30 a.m.
SYDNEY, December 10
Mr Complin, secretary of the New South Wales? Alliance, is jubilant over the New Zealand vote. Nobody, he says,,, can deny, that it is a grand victory. With the assistance of the Catholir: vote, the party probably could have carried prohibition with a good deal to spare. Mr Tennyfso}i Smith, the temperance advocate, predicts that the liquor trade will bo badly beaten at the next elections,
Officials of the Licensed' Victuallers' Association declined to discuss the matter on the incomplete figures.
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON. Doc. 9
Official results for the national prohibition vote are still drifting, through to the Chief Electoral Officer (Mr. F. W. Mansfield). The results do not differ materially from -those already published. It is generally anticipated that the vote in favour of prohibition will- fall short of tbe required majority by r> per cent.
