RANGATAUA NOTES.
(By Our Travelling Correspondent.) There is a marked improvement generally in this rising township. HousevS are' being built in all directions, and storekeepers are doing a steady business. Mr Sarah has sold his butchery business to Mr Pascoe, and Mr Fairlie his to Mr Casey. The school accommodation, from all accounts, is quite inadequate. The number of scholars has increased beyond all expectations. The constant new arrivals of families of five or six was evidently not l'eckoned with when tho last additions to the building were made. The output of timber from Rangatnua is enormous, but apparently it has all to. be shunted down tho lino to Ohakuno for the 'making-Tip of trains, and then is hauled back again up the incline to go South. The millers here also appear to have a grievance with the local railway officials, red tapeism, according to them, being.very pronounced. Tho Powell Process Company are inundated with orders, ixiul have found it necessary to increase their plant. At present, a new 80 h.p. boiler is being installed by Messrs Crabtree and Co., of Wellington.
