Viscount Haldane, in an address tr> 1,400 colonials, including New Zealanders, at tbe-Duke of York's Schoioi, said ho hoped General Nicholson's scheme would Le elaborated as consultation, with the chief Colonial officers would result in a unified army of the Empire and tho scheme would give the overseas soldiers a chance of distinction, and the power to interchange, r<nd opportunities of becoming :ioCjuninted with th 3 highest military systems of Uritian and other countries. He expressed the belief that the foundations,of Imperial dofence had been well and truly laid, and gave a live'y sense that we are living in tlie days of full hope for the Empire.
