PRESBYTERY OF WANGANUI.

The Presbytery of Wanganui met at Marion" on Tuesday, April 11. There were present: Revs (}. K. Aiken (Modorator). R. MCCully, JVRoss, A. Morton, J. Chisholm, A. C. Randerson, G. Budd A. Doull, D. Gordon, J. Mackie, and P. B. Fraser, and the Rev D. Martin, Messrs J. I.ambsrt, J. MacGregor, R. McKenzie, Parkinson, J. McFarlaiid. F. McCully, J. Bruce, and Matheson (elders). The following home .missionaries were also present: Rev E. Walker, H. Hogg, H. Peat, H. E. Eutleclge, H. Bloom'field, and W. Grundy. Revs W J. Comrie and Rev P B. Froser were present, and were associated with the Presbytery. Rev -J. Ross, in an eloquent speech, welcomed Mr Fraser, the new home missionary superintendent, whose name was added to the roll of Presbytery. Rev A. C. Randerson, whp has been recently inducted into Levin, w?.*s cordially welcomed by the Moderator, as also were the home missionaries.

The Rev A Doull reported fully on the induction of Rev A. C. Randerson to Levin. The whole proceedings were of the most hearty character, and tlie outlook is very hopeful in Levin.

Mr Aiken, of Foxton, reported that a hearty and unanimous call had been presented by the congregation of Shanron to Rev Jas. A. MacKenzie. MiMitchell, a member of the Shannon session, and Mr Jamieson, a manager, appeared in support of the call. On the motion of Mr Chisholm, seconded by Mr Doull, it was agreed that the call be sustained, on the conditions that the congregation erect a manse at the earliest possible date. Mr Mac*Kenzie bsing nre=ent. the call was placed in his hands, and he declared his ac-' eeptance of the same. For more than a twelve-month Mr Mackenzie laboured as a home missionary in Shannon district, and the imanimous call shows the . esteem in which he has been held by the people. The ordination and induction of Mr Mackenzie are to take place on Wednesday, Ap?-il 20. Mr Randerson is to preach. Mr Budd to address the minister, and Mr Doull the congregation.

Mr Budd gave a lengthy and clear statement of his visit to Raetihi and district. Mr Fraser will visit this district at an early date.

It was a greed that the plans and specifications for removing and adding to the church at Taihape be approved of.

Reports were given by all the home missionaries from the various stations. The Rev E. Walker, avJio is leaving Halcombe for California, banded in his lesignation of the presbytery. The resignation was accepted, with regrec Mr Fraser, who was very cordially received on rising to speak, thanked v the Presbytery for their kind and generous estimate they were making of the services to which he had been called. He hoped to work heartily in connection with this and other presbyteries of the Church. Re the arrangements for the induction, of the Rev A. Porter, wlio has been called to Marton and Upper Tutaenui, it was. agreed that it take place on Wednesday May 17, at 3 p.m., Rev Or Budjl to preside to induct. Rev Jas. .A. Mackenzie to preach. Mr J. D\ McKonzie to address the Minister, and Mr Morton the congregation. On the motion of Sir Morton, seconded by Mr McCully, it was agreed that the application oj' Mr Grundy to be received as a missionary in full standing be sent on to the committee, with the Presbytery's strong recommenda Ition. Plans *of a young men's class-room and eymnasiv.m were laid on the .table by Mr Doull. The estimated cost is £300. On the motion of Mr Ross the plans v:ere approved. ' An excellent Sabbath School building has been erected at Foxton. The Presbytery meets again in Marton on May 17. ' On the motion of the Rev P. Me-. Cully a motion of sympathy with the Rev J. Monfries was unanimously passed tlie Presbytery standing : 'The Presbytery records its profound sense of sorrow and loss in the death of Mrs Monfries in the flower of her young womanhood. For the noble work to wHoh with one mind she and her husband had consecrated their lives, Mrs Monfries was imminently fitted by great natural enriched by natient study aud culture. For her varied gifts as a physician as a woithv help to her husband, as a loyal worker in-the vineyard of our Lord, and as a cultured Christian woman, tin Presbytery expresses its thankfulness to God, the giver of all good things, feeling confident that He ha.d some higher purpose for her young life to serve in a holier simere. The Presbytery assures Mr Monfries that it ;incerely sorrows with him. and prays that in his time of tribulation and anguish be may he soothed by the presence of our blessed Lord, who hfs said, 'I wi!i never leave the? nor forsake thee.' I MAORI MISSION COMMITTEE.

The Presbytery met as a Maori Mission Committee, Rev C. B'udd convenor, presiding. After the reading and confirmation of the ninutes. a resolution of deep sympathy with Rev J. J. Monfries in his recent . sad bereavement was >assed. The resolution spoke of the vigil esteem in which the late Mrs MonVies was held by both Maori and Pakeha. The action of the convenor in requesting Mr Monfries to take a month's holiday and linding supply for Manuitui was approved. The Convenor reported that he had »xeived from an anonymous donor in Axickland thi.- --urn of £500 for mission tvork. to be allocated as follows; £225 or. foreign, £225 for home, and £50 for • Mauri mission work. The Convenor reported on the Girls' •chool at Tarakina There are about 30 ?irls in afctendanco. Froyle Cooper is | 'leaving at an enrly date to take up yMaori Mission work in connection with the Anglican Church. She has been in the school since its inception, and is an excellent scholar. The aerogen gas installed by Messrs Rurrell and Sifrlev is giving satisfaction. It gives little trouble, .and the. light is bright and clear, and probably the expense is less than that of kerosene. Revs Aitken and McCidly reported on their efforts to raise funds for the Tauniaranui Maori Roys' Farm. The Indies of Auckland. P.W.M.U., and elsewhere have resolved to do something towards raising the necessary fluids. Help is also expected from Kawke's Ray and several places in the South.
