KAURI GUM MARKET.
(Per Press Association.) DARGAVILLE, March 20. The depression in the kauri gum marI ket which prevailed throughout the year '. shows no sign of passing-away, and diggo/s, especially Crontians, are leaping 1 the field in large numbers in search of more remunerative avenues of employ- ' j jnait. : It has been asserted that the •depression is duo to the machinations of a combine in London, but inquiries have failed to elicit sufficient evidence to substantiate! that theory. It would ssem that one reason for the slump is overproduction, and another is that substitutes for kauri, in the shape -of other gums, are being placed on the market.
