SHEEP STATION SWEPT BY FIRE.
(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, September 3. The country surrounding the Mount Royal Estate was swept by fire last night. All the fences on Mr C. M. 13 rook's property were destroyed, and it is feared that his sheep have been lost. The homestead is intact. The extent of the damage is not yet known, but it is believed to be heavy. There was a tremenuous glare in ihe western sky, and the sight from Palmerston was a magnificent one. One thousand acres have been swept by the fire, and all late improvements on Mr Brooks farm destroyed. Mr Brooks lost over 150 sheep and the Mount Royal Estate 50. The fencing at the back of the latter station was utterly destroyed, and 23 men were fighting the blaze all the morning before it was; got under control. ■■ • ■
