OPERA HOUSE.
THE CALEDONIANS
Lovers of a "Scotch night" who ■-vere absent from the Opera House last evening missed a treat, for the entertainment given by The Caledonians
was such as to appeal to any Scottish
heart- Bagpipe music, Highland dances (fling, sword dance, and sheantreus—were interspersed with gems of Scottish nielcdy and humorous songs, while an Irish jig and a sailor's hornpipe wero also included. The Wa-ngsi-nui Pipe Band, as a compliment to the Caledonians, attended, and played two selections- Miss Cissy O'Keefe, an old favourite, gave a very dramatic rendering of "Jessie's Dream," for which shewas encored and in the second part sang, "My Am Folk," giving "My Garden" as an encore. Miss Rita Brown sang "Roses" very pleasingly, but a relaxed throat precluded further contributions. Mr Colin Campbell made ■ many friends by hi.s singing of "Banks
of Loch Lomond" (encore), "Annie Laurie," "Jessie, the Flower of Dunblane" (encore), "My Mary," and " Afton Water." Mr Jock Willis was excellent in hi.s humorous songs, especially "Fu the Noo," while "I Love a Lassie" was also much enjoyed. He was en, cored several times. In addition he sang "March of the Cameron Men," "The Deathless Army," and "Will Ye No Come Back Again?" Mr Charles McDonald, late of the Black Watch, played several pipe solos, and provided tho music for the dances of Mr Tarn Jaffray, who was encored for each item. Tho company sang "Duncan Gray" and "Auld Lang Syne." Mr Hawkins played the accompaniments during the evening. To-night the company will make their ■final appearance, when a complete change of programme will be given. We can confidently recommend the entertainment.
