A goods train from Royan overran the signals at Sanjon, where, the double line becomes single, and caught an excursion train, passing the points. The collision was cannon-like, and caused a terrible panic amtong passengers upon the S-uijon platform.
The excursionists fincluded many sportsmen going to the Royan races.
Ono carriage- contained girls of the Bordeaux Religious Association going to Royan to celebrate the Feast cf the Assumption. Eight were killed and ethers terribly injured.
