The Thoroughbred Horse, GRAVITATION By Birlcenhead—Stepfeldt. Will Travel Marton, Turakina; and Wanganui Districts. This well-bred horse will be at the service of Breeders in the Wanganui, Turakina, and Marton Districts. He is a handsome horse, 5 years old, standing 16-1 hands,, being dark brown in colour, showing good quality and substance all over. Birkenhead, his sire, is a bay horse, bred in England in 189G,, being by Orme, his dam Tragedy by Ben Battle—The White Witch, by Massinessa—Jeu <le Mots, by King Tom—Jeu d' Esprit, by Flatcatcher. Gravitation's dam, Stepfeldt, was by Nordenfeldt out of Steppe, who was by Saunterer out of Seclusion (dam of Hermit —winner of English Derby). Stepfeldt, this horse's dam, is a "full sister to Stepniak, our leading sire, and is also the dam of such brilliant performers as—Elevation, Provocation and Gravitation; so this is a chance breeders should not miss. Gravitation only raced as a two-year-old, but he showed his ability to gallop by annexing the Hastings Stakes (* furlongs), beating 11 others; time 50 l-sth. Also won Hopeful Stakes (4 fur.) at Wellington, Aborigine 2nd, Diabolo 3rd; time 49 l-sth. At Wanganui Autumn, won Jackson Stakes (6 fur.), beating Irish Rifle, Glenculloch, Helen Portland, Bunyan and Millionaire. Gravitation, on account of jarring one of his joints, never raced after a two-year-old. Last season, Sir Geo. Clifford secured him for use at his private stud. .and the following mares have proved in foal to him:— Discipline, Lady Wayward, Safeguard, Windwhistle, Teredina, To-Morrow, and several others, which is surely sufficient recommendation of the horse's qualities.
