PERSONAL.
Mr Ewe-n Macdonell, ex-Inspector of Police, died on Thursday at Petone, in his 62nd year. Mr Macdone'l joined the force at Dunedin, a,nd served there and in Southland until 1899, when he was appointed sub-inspector at Wellington. In the following year he yas appointed to the inspectorship at Greyinouth, and in 1902 was transferred to Napier, where he remained until he retired from tlic service last year. Since his retirement he had lived at Petone. The late Mr Matdonell was a very active police officer, and took much interest in athletics a.nd in Scottish gatherings. He leaves a widow and two sons and two daughters.
