A DEAF AND DUMB BOY SHOOTS

(Per Press Association.) FOXTON, July 5. A tragedy occurred here about 1 o'clock this morning, when a deaf and dumb boy, aged about 19, son of Thomas Nye, shot his father dead. The boy, who occupied an upstairs room, came down and met his father, who was aroused by the boy walking about. The father met him in the diningroom, at the foot of the stairs, when the boy fired, shooting his father through the neck. Mrs. Nye was aroused, and called to her husband. Receiving no reply, she called to her two other chidren, who occupied an upstairs room, to flee. She then rushed from the house for safety. The boy tried to intercept her, but she escaped. The police were then communicate! with, and traced the boy on to th« Whirokino Road leading to Levin. It is thought he is making for Wellington, where his mother resides, his father having been married twice. It is rumoured that the boy had threatened to kill his father, and on several occasions had run away from home. He carried away the gun with him, and has not yet been arrested.
