CHRISTCHURCH, July 5

The Hon. R. McKenzie has telegraphed to Mr Russell, M.P., that he is making enquiry to see if something can bo done to relieve the uneaiployed in Christchurch.

Sinos June 20th the local office of the Department of Labour have sent 38 men to tho Midland Railway works between the Cass and the Bealey, 13 to bushfelling contracts, and 1C to other work, a, total of 72. Another party of 20 men will be despatched shortly to the Midland Railway works. The officer in charge is awaiting further instructions from the head office with regard to making up another gang of bushfellers.

Sinca tha outbreak of the unemployed trouble 139 men have registered their names at the City Council, but only 73 have applied for orders enabling them to be taken on the works.
