FIRES.
AT WESTPORT.

WESTPORT, July 4
A fire which occurred at 2.15 this morning, gutted a tobacconist's shop in Palmerston South, occupied by Mr Watts and owned by Mr Munson. It also did some damage to an adjoining building owned, by Munson and occupied by Miss Adamsdn, fruiterer. A building on the other side of Watt's, owned and occupied by Leaver, saddler, also with £200 worth of new stock, was damaged. Munson was insured for £'200 on each of his buildings, Watts £300 on bis stock, and Leaver £300 on tho building and £200 on the stock. A fire also broke out in the bedroom of J. M.icNamara's house at the other end of the town, but was extinguished before much damage was done. W. MacNamara, who slept in the room, was almost suffcated by smoke, when his brother discovered and extinguished tho fire.
