Received July 4, 5.5 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 4. The Grand National Hurdle Race resulted as follows:— V

Fossil 1, Kalnuck 2, Old Nick 3. All the acceptors started. Rogues' March was in front at the first hurdle, followed by Sun. Knotter, Circular, and Old Nick. A little later the Sun took charge from Circulas.. Entering . the straight in the leading division were the Sun, Enchanted, States, and Fossil together, followed by Old Chappie, Knotter, Old Nick, and Kalnuck. Opposite the lawn Enchanted and Circulas fell. Knotter joined Fossil along the river side, showing the way to Sun, Old Chappie, Kalnuck, and Kulkerna, the rest being strung out. At the four furlongs, Kulnuck went into second place to Fossil, the next being Old Nick. They entered the straight on even terms, and after a great race homo Fossil won by a short length, Old Nick four lengths away. Wooloomooloo was furth, then Woolara, the Rogue, and the Sun, while Togo and Waipu were among the ruck. Time, 5.52£.
