NEW ALPINE MINE.

(Special to Chronicle.) GREYMOUTH, July 1

The new Alpine mine manager reports for the week ending 29fch June as follows : —" Very little driving was done, as not sufficient air was available for the rock drill. The north face has a total distance of 124 feet and the width of the reef is 11 feet. The south face is 64 feet and only boulders of stone ar*» in the face at present. In the stopes the reef measures as follows: No. 1 stope 9 feet, No. 2 stope 8 feet, No. 3 stope 9 feet 6 inches, No. 4 stope 4 feet and a new splice coming in (but no foot Avail—drilled 2 feet into it this afternoon, but no wall), No. 5 stope 5 feet, No. 6 stope north 5 feet and the No. 6 stope south 9 feet (tapering to 2 feet at bottom of stope}. We will underhand this bit underfoot, as it should be cut in about 2 feet of sinking. I intend to put in an intermediate to work this stone south of the middle winze, as it does not go down to the level. No. 7 stope north (hanging wall splices only) 6 feet; No. 7 stope, south, measuring on the horizontal 12 feet. I think if it could be measured at right angles between the walls it would be from 12 to 14 feet in width. In stoping north in No. 7 stope we found about 8 feet of reef jumped right back into the foot wall, and I think as we carry this stope along we will find it continues north, where the reef is small to Nos. 5 and 6 stopes. If so, this should give us a good body of milling stone here. The filling in was completed and stoping started in the south stopes again. Two hundred and fifteen tons were paddocked for the week, making the total tonnage to date 734 tons."
