THE POSITION AT CHRISTCHURCH
CHRISTCHURCH, July 2. The position regarding the imemploy 7 ed shows little change. From all appearances the greater proportion of the workers have found something to do, .but the minority, which alters but little in the individuals composing it, seemes to remain unable to get suited. Amongst these last mentioned are two or three who have had experience of work on the Midland railway at Broken River, and express their determination net to go back. Having had no experience of bush work many of the workless have ho chance of finding employment on bushfelling contracts in the North Island. Of 26 men selected for work under the City Council only eight have applied for orders at the City Surveyor's office entitling them to bo taken on. In consequence of others whose nnmes appear on the list not having applied for orders, some who have had a week's work have been continued.
