HOCKEY.

Yesterday was an ideal clay for hockey, and those who attended the girls' match saw one of the best ladies' games yet played in Wanganui. The moving of the goal posts has improved the ground considerably, and if players would take advantage of the moonlight nights to roll the ground they would greatly benefit by the result.

Tho return match, Sherwood A v. Wanganui Ladies, has been looked forward to with much interest. Both clubs were fully represented, and as tho Wanganui team had been considerably strengthened by the inclusion of new players, their supporters hoped that they would be able to turn the tables on their opponents. The game throughout was fast and open, both teams settling down to its quickly, and ro was soon seen that the game would not be lost until the whistle sounded.

Sherwood forwards played well together. Their passing was accurate, and they used their pace to better advantage than did their opponents. The two goals, scored by Miss Jone3 in the first halt', and Miss G. Allomes in the second, were both the result of clever play on the part of the forwards. The halves all played well, and supported the forwards by makiiig openings for them. Miss Tin gey, at five-eighths, stood out as the best back on the ground ; her attack was well judged, and her defence was solid. The backs played well together, and when called upon managed to clear their goal. The Wanganui forwards lacked the combination of their opponents. Misses Mcliardy and McDonald were the pick of the line. The halves were good en the defence, particularly Miss Moore, but they did not always find their forwards. Miss Soler played well, her hitting was hard and clean. Miss Collier speculated too freely, and missed very often; she should field the ball when she has time. Miss Davis, in goal, stopped several hard shots, and the two that beat her were both splendid goals. Mr C. T-remewan gave satisfaction with the whistle.
