Mr G. T. Murray, engineer in Taranaki, has been spending the Easter holidays in Wanganui. A Dunedin wire announces the death of Captain Angus Cameron, Marine Superintendent of, thfe Union Company. Madame Melba arrived at the Bluff yesterday. She sprained her knee while on board and had to be helped ashore.' Her engagements will, however, be fulfilled. "
Mr Frank Levy arrived in town yesterday to make arrangements for the Wanganui season of Messrs Meynell and Gunn's Dramatic Company^ who open here on the 20th-inst in "A Miners' Trust."
The death occurred on Sunday evening of Captain William J. Gibbons, licensee of the Crown Hotel, Port Ahuriri. Hewas formerly connected with the Wel-lington-Patea shipping trade.* He was a Past Grand ' Deacon of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New .Zealand.
His Excellency the Governor will arrive in town, this morning and in the afternoon will lay the foundation stone of the new Collegiate SchooF buildings. His Excellency, who will stay at the Rutland Hotel, will remain in town until Wednesday afternoon.
Owing to indisposition His Lordship the Bishop of Wellington has been unable so far to be present at the Collegiate School celebrations. The Bishop however, hopes to be present at this afternoon's ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new school buildings.
Great regret was expressed that, owing to sudden illness Mr Cecil Wray, the poptrfcir aaid energetic president of the Old Bojs' Association, was unable to bo present at the sports and big luncheon yesterday morning. We are pleased to state that Mr Wray was able to bap esent at the sports in the afternoon.
