VALEDICTORY.
A very pleasant time was spent sit Sevan's Brewery last evening, when Messrs Swan and Co. entertained the "members of their old staff. The firms business has been amalgamated with that of Gibbons and Hole, and the combined business will in future be known as the Wanganui Brewery Company. The firm therefore took the opportunity cf farewelling their old staff, the function taking the form of a banquet, at which about 25 were .present. Durrhg the evening the Mayor (Mr C. E. Mackay) on behalf of tho employees, presented Mr J. G. H. ,Swan with a valuab'o piece of silver plate. In making tho presentation, Mr Mackay referred to tho high esteem in which Mr Swan was held and spoke of his civic services in Napier, where he was Mayor for over seventeen years. He wished Mr Stfan: every prosperity and happiness. The'toast of "The Mayor Was proposed by Mr G. H. Swan, who spoke of Mr Mackay's strenuous work in carrying out the tramway scheme,' etc. "The' Staff" was proposed by Mr J. G. Swan and responded to by Messrs Watt. Collett, Ransom and Cohen (representing the office, malting, brewing, and bottling staffs.) "The Firm" was proposed by Mr W. H. Watt and responded to by Messrs G. H. and J. G. Swan and W. R. Tuck. During the evening songs and recitations were given, and a very enjoyable timo was spent.
