CORRESPONDENCE.

THE BANKS,

To the Editor

Sir,—The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce pointed out an obvious fact w hen ho referred to the present policy of the banks, which is like unto the greed of the daughters of the horseleech. As a public policy of reprisal might I suggest to the Chamber of Commerce that they take into consideration the question of advising the public to refuse bank notes whenever offered, either at the bank or from private person, and to deal solely in gold. I do not for a moment suggest that bank not*s current in the Dominion are not worth their face value, but I think such a policy if persisted in for the space or two days—or less—over the whoie i Dominion would reduce the banks to! that condition of sweet reasonableness which is so much desired at the present time,—l am, etc , HIGH FINANCE.
