~ LONDON, September 3. The Countess of Annesley's jewels, worth £1000, were stolen from her bedroom in the-Hotel Metropole, Dublin. Earl Poulett has married a member of the Gaiety Theatre chorus, Miss Sylvia Storey, a daughter of Fred Storey, the comedian.

Jones, an aeronaut, at Water ville, Maine, in the presence of 25,000 spectators, ascended in a dirigible balloon, H'hicli caught fire and exploded. Jones dropped 500 feet and was killed. The forest fires in California have reached the mammoth grove of sequoia trees at Calaveras, and there is little hope of saving them. One of the largest is already destroyed.
