WANGANUI HARBOUR BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Harbour Board was held last evening. PRESENT.—Mr J. B. Murray (chairman), Messrs C. Patterson, C. D. Mason, P. W. Dickey, A. G. Bigriell, W. Ritchie, C. ¥. Millward, N. Meuli, and the .Mayor (Mr C E. Mackay). Apology lor absence was received from Mr W. G. Bassett.

GRAVEL.—The question of the re.mbval.by. J. Joiies or gravel from a section at Oastlecliff leased by W. Aiken, senior, was referred to the solicitor.

SECTIONS.— Messrs ..Ashwell' and Hamilton wrote, applying for ..sections 4: and 5, the annual rental of which is 13s and 14s per foot respectively. Should the Board grant a lease the applicants would be prepared, to erect a workshop, fencing, etc./ to the value of £200.—Resolved that the matter be not entertained unless the applicants comply with the building clause in the agreement. -

FlNANCE.—Accounts amounting to £834 12s 9d were passed for payment:' Debit general account £9733 10s Id, credit loan account £9750. Bank balance £11 9s.

IN .MEMORIAM.—It was resolved, on a motion of the Chairman, and secconded by Mr W. Ritchie, that a letter of sympathy be sent to Mrs Willis and family, expressing the Board's sympathy at the decease of iMr A. I>. Willis OASTLECLIFP.- The Castlecliff bports Association wrote, applying to the Board for progress payment ot £40 for the contractors who are doing the improvements to London Park .—Resolved that the payment be paid. RIMU.—The Northern Steamship Co. wrote re fund of £1 4s overcharge on pilotage, on the Rimu, which was forcea to return to port owing to stress of weather.—Resolved that the amount be refunded.

RAILS.—An account was received from the New Zealand Railways Department re handling rails at Timaru.—Resolved that the Department be advised to refer to the shipping company to make their claim.

WHARFAGE.—A letter was received from Mr J. C. Nixon re wharfage charged on small boat brought into port and launched* into the river by the s.s. Rhnu. As the boat was not landed, but was put into the water by the boat's crew, Mr Nixon thought a refund of a portion of tha amount (7s 6d) might be made.—Resolved that the charge be upheld

BLUE GUM PILES.—Mr N. Meuli drew- the Board's attention to a quantity of blue giim piles now lying by Manison's store. He suggested that the engineer be instructed to put a price on them and that they be sold to people requiring them.-Jlesolved that the matter, be referred to-the engineer. CHANNEL .—Owing "to vessels continually grounding in the channel, it was resolved that it be an instruction to the engineer to sound the channel each week to ascertain its condition. REPORTS.—The reports of the pilot and engineer were read and adopted.
