The monthly meeting of the Gonvil'e Town Board1 was held last night. The report is unavoidably held over.

The Liedertafel gave a most successful concert at the Opera House last evening. Owing to pressure on our space our report is held over till to-morrow.

An old and experienced farmer, speaking to a representative of the "Chronicle" yesterday, described the present season as the best lambing season within his recollection.

The annual entertainment of the District High School is announced in our advertising columns for the 24th inst. The programme promises to be both varied and interesting. Contrary to custom, the first part of the programme is to be of a general character, and the second to consist of a school operetta. This has probably been necessitated by the operetta being staged by the juniors. We are told that the acting and singing are of a particularly bright and picturesque character.

A well-known public official, whose duties sometimes impose upon him the uncongenial task of dealing with seeniing harshness with a class of people who may be described as the " übiquitous undeserving," has at times been charged with heartlessness. The Chairman and several members of the Wanganui Hospital Board attended at the Hospital yesterday forenoon for the purpose of witnessing a demonstration by Mr F. P. Talboys of the X rays apparatus which that gentleman has placed under offer to the Board.
