APITI NOTES.

(From" Our Own Correspondent). .The annual meeting of the Tennis Uub was held on the 2lst ult. There was a'fair-attendance of members. The report and balance sheet showed the club to be m a good financial position. Iho < following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mr Heldt • vice-presidents, Dr Gregory, Messrs buy, Matthews and Falconer; secretary and treasurer, Mr Elliott. Eulogistic reference was made to the retiring treasurer, Miss Ross, and the retiring secretary, Mr Decke, for "the good work done. It was decided to sell the present ground, procure a moie suitable one and put down asphalt courts. On the lOfch October, Mr" Watson will lecture here under the auspices of the Debating Society, the subject bein.o- the American Civil War. The lecture., is to the public, admission: being by silver coin. " ' ••■■''■ ; ' Mr Carruthers has disposed' of his business both at Kimbolton and Apiti to Mr Sutton, of Palmerston North. Mr Clark, manager of the Apiti branch, is to occupy a similar position under the new firm. A long felt want has been ei'^lied by the coming into our midst of a shoemaker. Mr Gill has commenced business in the boot and sho© line. On the 26th the long-looked for concert in aid of the Catholic Church eventuated. The programme, which was a lengthy one, was provided by the Apiti Comedy Company, and from the outbursts ,of applause, andvthe way the several items were, received, the Com- : pany have good reason to be satisfied. I have not heard what the takings were, but from the size of the audience the funds of the church will be augmented by a substantial sum.
