' SIRES OF THE SEASON. SO TBA.VEI WANGAKTJI AND SURROUNDING DISTRICTS. The Champion Pure-bred Clydesdala Stallion, . * • -- •; KNIGHT OF THE THISTLE (10,789 S.CS.E.) By HANDSOME PRINCE (10,356 S.C.S B.). Sam MAY QUEEN (9,336 5.C.5.8.) Imported by A. ALEXANDER, Waim, Normanby. KNIGHT OX* THE THISTLE (10,753, vol. 22, 5.C.5.8.) is a powerful, shapely, and stoutly-bred brown horse, standing 17 hands high, and is seven years old. Pie was bred by Wm. Agnew, Esq., Balwhefrrie, Leswalt; Stranraer ,and was purchased recently by his present owner when on a visit to Scotland. Handsome Prince (Knight of the Thistle's sire) is by the world-renowned Prince of Wales (673, 5.C.5.8.) who was the greatest horse of the century. Prince of Wales gained many prizes, including first prizes at the H. and A. Show at Edinburgh in 1869, at the Royal Society's Show, Manchester, in the same year, again taking the premiership at the firstnamed Society's Show, held at Kelso in 1872. Prince of Wales lived until 23 years of age. At the age of 18 he was sold by public auction for £945, and he was once leased for the season for £1,000, when his fee was 40 guineas each mare. The dam of Handsome Prince is the celebrated Darnley (222, 5.C.5.8.) mare Pandora, and her breeding is unsurpassed, her sire being the . best Clydesdale ever bred. Darnley's descehdents are renowned for their superiority all over the world, and the fact of two strains of this great horse's blood being on both sides of KNIGHT OF THE THISTLE'S pedigree, combined with the Prince of Wales strain, must attract the favourable attention of breeders of high-class Clydesdales.
