MARTON JOCKEY CLUB.

SPRING MEETING

The cbove meeting commences to-day and will continue on Thursday, and given tine weather a record for this progressive club should be established, as racegoers are expected to turn out in large numbers. The track is in surprisingly good order for this time of the year, and will compare favourably, with the best racing courses in New Zealand. The fields will be large in every race—an average of sixteen--and some really excellent sport should be provided. The two big open events include a. number of New Zealand Cup candidates, and \£hus should give additional attraction to the racing. This year racing patrons will be surprised to note the great improvements" that have been carried out to the course and appointments, the oflkials having done everything possible to conduce to the pleasure of the public and give satisfaction to horse-owners. The totalisator will again be in charge of Messrs Neylon and Snriggens, whilst Mr J. M. Nicol will have sole charge of the luncheon and refreshment booths. The publican's booth will be conducted by Mr J. A. Pawson. tho popular host of the Marten Hotel. The services. of tho Marton Band have also been secured for both days. Special trains from Palmerston North, Wanganui, and the Main Trunk Lin<^ will run, and excursion tickets will hi issued available for return till 4th September. Following horses have ihcured penalties and their weights will now bo: Overtime 7.12 Electric HandicjiD; Research 8.13 Tutnenui Welter: Kuranui 12.10 and Cavil 11.2 in the Hunt Cup.
