(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 1. The House met at 2.30. Consideration of the Estimates was resumed.

The Hon. McNab, replying to criticisms and suggestions, said arrangements had been made with the Ota go University to open a veterinary school, and men trained there would have first claim upon the Department for employment. An endeavour would be made to secure more Angora goats.

Mr Donald Reid objected to the sum of £900 (salaries to manure sterilising inspectors in Sydney and Calcutta), -and moved a reduction of the vote by £1 for the purpose of obtaining information.

The ■ amendment was lost on the voices.

On tho State Forests Account Vote, £30,201,

■Messrs Herries and Massey urged the necessity for a more vigorous reafforestation policy. Tho Hon. McNab said the Govern ment had had bad luck at Dumgree, but had moved the young trees there to other plantations..

Mr Massey said there - seemed to be many officers in the Department doing little, and there were many directions in which the money could be spent to greater advantage. Tho Hon. McNab said the officers also graded eggs for local consumption. The Government had been doing its best to further the poultry export industry for this country. Respecting Mr Gibuth, tho Minister said the Secretary of Agriculture had received a letter from Mr Gilruth, stating that the Secretary of the University, of Melbourne had asked whether ho would accept the chair of veterinary pathology, and he had-re-plied in the affirmative. The Minister knew of no man who would refuse such an offer. He thought it reflected credit upon the Department. The Secretary of Agriculture was instructed to convey the congratulations of the Department to Mr .Gilruth.
