P AND T. CONCERT.
The annual emoke concert in connection with the Post "and Telegraphic Offices took place on Saturday evening, when a large number of officers and their guests' spent a-very enjoyable time at the Fire Brigade Hall. • ■• The chair was'occupied by the Chief Postmaster (Mr Miller)" and the vice-chair by Mr H. D. Bates. Among the guests were His Worship the Mayor -of Wanganui (Ma;;;p.--E. Mackay), 'Mr J. E. Armstrong' '(District -Railways Traffic Manager), Mr T. R. Say well (local agent of the Public Trustee), Mr W. McNichol (postmaster at Bulls, and a member of the Superannuation Board. After the . spread provided by Mr T. Hodsoil had been done justice to, a fairly long toast list, _ interspersed with excellent entertaining items, was proceeded with. The toasts were as follow:—" The' King"; " Postmaster-General and Executive Staff," proposed "by Mr A. Sykes, and responded, to by !3ilr Miller; " Prosper ity of Wanganui and its citizens," proposed by Mr H, D. Batesand responded to by the Mayor; "Wanganui Post and Telegraph Staff," proposed by the Mayor and responded to 'by Messrs Miller and. Bates; " The visitors," proposed by'Mr G. Coles and r'espoiided to by Messrs Armstrong and Say well; " The Post -and' Telegraph Association," proposed by Mr H. L. Kirigsley and responded to by Messrs W. McNichol and G. J. Steel (local seci-etary); "The Press," proposed by Mr J. G. Gilbertson and responded to by Messrs W. S. Corby ("Herald") and J. A.. Inkster ("Chronicle");- "The Ladies," proposed by Mr W. J. Mahoney and responded to by Mr W. Holmes; "The Caterer,'' proposed_ by the Chairman. A capital programme was rendered during the evening. Messrs Quinn (violin) and "White (piano) played two diiets. Mr Cook sang '"The Bedouin Love Song,"' "The Admiral's Broom," and " Drinking, Drinking, Drinking,'' the latterbeing an encore number. Mr Aldridge sang "The Midshipmite" as an encore to " The, Longshoreman." Mr Penhall sang "A Night Out" and "The Miner;f?: "Sunshine;!-and ilain" •'being as aii encore. ' THe- other' vocalist 'was Mr Clayton, wlio sang the old ■ favourite. ■ ■T^lymduth Sound." Mr"'W:., H. MeCaul played in his usual artistic manner a violin solo, which was encored. M^'Roach; was also encored for a violin solo: Mr R. H. Bbyd was in good form and his.^ecitatiohs Sorig of; the Artesian"* Well" and ."A Wee Scotch Nicht" were re-demanded. Mr Turvey played "Lucy Long" as a bassoon solo, arid was compelled .to give' another in response to aii encore: •
