WELLINGTON, August 11. Tlio Rev. Gibson Smith's book on "Tho Atonement/ was roferred to today at tho regular meeting of tho Wellington Presbytery, of which tho author is Moderator.

Kennedy Elliott gave notice to move an overture, of considerable length, setting foith that all Christendom holds and teache3 that Christ by his obedience, satisfied Divine jus^ tice, that this Presbyterian Church holds and proclaims this same doctrine, as sot forth in our standards (nassages cited from tho Westminster Confession and larger and shorter Catechisms); that every minister and elder solemnly undertakes constantly to maintain and defend tho same doctrine, and that a minister of tho Church has published a book in which he emphatically, and with scorn, denies the truth of the said doctrine; and that this Presbytery revives to overture the General Assemol;y of tho Church, indicted to meet at Uunochn on November 10th, for the purpose, of upholding of the testimony ot tho church, for the stability of saints in their faith, and for tho maintenance or tho church's position, it, is highly expedient to re-affirm and anew declare this Chnrclrs adheronca to the doctrine ol_ her standards., in such terms as the wisdom of the General Assembly nr^ seem meet."
