CAN PASTURES BE MADE PERMANENTP THERE is a considerable area of very - valuable pasture land in many districts which has been grassed by surface sowing after bush, etc., has been burnt off, and now. owing to heavy grazing for a number of years, is becomivig impoverished so that it is not carrying .stock to profit; ploughing and re-grassing are out of the question, so, WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO BE DONE? There is little doubt that a TOPDRESSING with a well selected fertilizer is, in the majority of cases, the most successful and profitable thing to apply. Numerous trials and experiments have" shown that a mixture of BASIC PHOSPHATE OF LIME AND POTASH SALTS applied as a winter top-dressing is the very best refresher for over-cropped or impoverished pastures. The Mixture has, as it were, a triple action:—• 1. Phosphate and Potash are plant foods which invigorate the good grasses and increase their fattening qualities 2. Being alkaline it sweetens sour ground. 3. The lime, besides helping the growth of clovers, acts mechanically upon the soil and improves its condition. We have had fitted up in our Wellington stores new machinery for grinding, mixing, and grading manures, and we are now prepared to supply our " Special Pasture Top-dressing Mixture of Basic Phosphate and Potash."
