FIRE AT ELTHAM.

(Per Press Association.) ELTHAM, March 10. A largo two-storey, -detached, wooden building in Main Street, used as a boarding-house, was found on fire at 2 o' clock this morning. Eighteen persons were in the house, but they had time to escape and save somo. of theiv effects, and; the furniture. The fire started in the kitchen; at the back of the lower storey,, and would soon have licked un the building, but the water pressure was very, good and the seat of the fire accessible. The flames were got under in about a quarter of an hour. Thojiousa was owned by G. W. Taylor, "and"occupied by J. Sossey. Insurances on the building, £600 in the State • on •the furniture, £150 in the Standard. Ihe damage to the building is estimated at £250. .
