PRESBYTERIAN ASSEMBLY.

The- Presbytery of Wanganui met at | Marton on the 24th September. There j wore present—Revs. B. Hutson (Moderator), Evans, Budd, Gumi, McCully, Hull. Gordon, Ross, Morton and Fletcher (Taiipo), Messrs. Kilgour, Honore, i Simpson, Murray, Scott, Mcßeth, Tucker, Brechin, and Bishop. Mr. Loan, H.M., from Rewa, was also pre- I sent, also Rev. Walker, from Haleombe. The minutes of the previous meeting ; were read and confirmed. Apologies for absence were received from Revs. R. M. Ryburn and Rev. I. Jolly, and Mr. A. J. Simpson. On the 'motion of Mr. Scott, a motion op sympathy with Mr. Ryburn in his ill-1 ness was Unanimously carried. | Mr. Morton, moved, and Mr. Ross seconded, that the Presbytery recom- j mend the Assembly to ordain Mr. Ward, '■ of Taumaramii, as a Maori missionary. —Carried, Mr. Budd moved, and it was agreed to. that the Summer Sdhool Committee t>e continued, and report definitely at next meeting of the Presbytery. | The following church extension grants were recommended: —Fordell £20, Taiihape £25, Taihape outfields £30, Raetihi £30, - Mangaweka £30, Rewa £30, Haloombe £30. Bulls £20, Foxton £20, Levin £20, Kimbolton £20, Pohangina i £30. Taumaranui £20, Taumaranui outfields £20, Waitotiara £10. Mr. Budd gave a summary of Sabj bath school statistics. He spoke also of the necessity of dealing with individiWl scholars and seeking to lead them to j decision for Christ. The attention of the Presbytery was : called by Mr. McCully to the Sunday . school examination papers. The members of the Presbytery considered many j of the questions too difficult for young [ people, also that some of the questions of last year were almost unintelligible. Mr. Budd moved that the clerk write to Mr. McKenzie and Or. Cairn©, drawing their attention to the nature of the ( discussion that took place on the sub- . ject. j Mr. McCully informed the Presbytery ( that Mr. Johii Glasgow ihiad granted a , site of half an acre for the site of a I church at Makirikiri South.—Mr. Glasgow to be thanked for the site.—The plans for the new church were sanctioned 'by the Presbyetry. Mr. Simpson reported that there were £117 on hand for the building, and lie anticipated that the church would be opened almost free- of debt. The report from Raetihi was veny encouraging. It is expected that the people there will be able to proceed with the building of a church at no distant date. Mr. Lennox's services will 'be continued on the Main Trunk lane for another . yenr. I Mr. Ross reported that the new manse at Taihape had been completed, and was now occupied by the missionary. \ Mr. Loan has commenced work in Rewa district. The peopl© there ho>pe to build a church for themselves at an early date, and apply to the Century Fund for a loan of £100. On the motion of Mr. Gunn, it was agreed to send-the'application of Mr. F. C. J. Parfitt to be received as a home misionary to the convenor of the Home Mission Committee, also the application of Mr. D. McKenzie.

The followiing chiurches are entitled to send elders to the Assembly:—St. Andrew's, Wanganui; Fordell. MJarton, Feilding Bulls; ministers, Revs. Ryburn, Ross,' McCully, Gunn, Fletcher, and Gordon.

Rev. I. Jolly was nominated as Moderator of the Assembly for 1908.

It was-arranged that next meeting of the Presbytery be held at Turakina on Thursday. 12th December.

The Presbytery met as a Maori Mission Committee. In the absence of the Rev. Ryburn, the chair was taken by Mr. Hutson. The Rev. H. Fletcher and J. E. Ward, from Taumaranni, were present. It was agreed to ask the Assembly to ordain Mr. Monfries. It was also agreed that Mr. Ward be ordained 1 as a Maori missionary.. 1 The committee decided to extend Mr.

Poraumati's engagement for another v«ar: also the employment of Mr. G. : Hears and Sister Alison. Mr. Hefer--1 man was appointed to accompany Mr. Monfries for six months.

Reports from Taupo. Taumaranui, Oruanui, Tokaamii, and the Maori Girls' School at Turakina were read and dealt with The reports were adopted. A hearty vot-3 of thanks was accorded to Mr. Hutson for acting as -treasurer, and thus relieving the convenor (Mr. Rvburn'i of a vast amount of work.
