DUNEDIN, June 11
In the case of John Hodson ,_ mine manager, charged with failing to contribute fivo shillings a 'week towards the support of Elizabeth Hodson, his Avife, defendant said he just got work at 12s per day aft-er serving a third term of imprisonment for failing to obey a maintenance order for his "wife's support. Ho would not give a shilling to support a woman who had carried on as his wife had done, not even if it would mean the scaffold to-morrow. The Magistrate sentenced Hodson to three months' imprisonment with hard labour, tho warrant to be withheld till the/July pay day in order to give the accused tho opportunity of paying off the arrears due.
