Tho election for the AVestland .seat caused 'considerable interest. The result wa.s: — Seddon '. 2281 iMichel 1634 Majority 647 Seven small returns have to come. Both candidates addressed a Large assemblage in 'front of the Supreme Court, where the returns were being shown by limelight. •Mr -Seddon expressed grateful thanks for the support accorded him and expressed pleasure at the manner in whitcih the 'Contest had been conducted.
iMr Michel thanked his supporters land aiiii'ounced his intention of contesting the seat again at the first opportunity, wlhen. he felt sure Hs long service iwould bo first, and .sympathy second.
Great cliee-ring greeted both cmdidates, who wero 'carried shoulder high.
iMr iSeddon will remain on the Coast some little time, and will visit localities where 'he ;had been unable to visit in the short time of the campaign. He is receiving a large number of co-n----'gra.tul'atory messuge«.
