A Melbourne cable announce* the death of Mr. H. M. Chomley, formerly Commissioner of Police, and a participator iv the Eureka Stockade fight. A Press (wire say.3 that Mr T. Hay Mackenzie, stationinaster in charge of West port, who entered the- railway service under the Provincial Government •of Ota-go in 1875, died suddenly of heart failure on the wharf at 4 p.m. yesterday.
Thursday.?, "New Zealand Times" says:—Mr. Alfred McCarthy, who for the past three years or more has held tho position of clerk in the Supreme Court office in this city, has been transferred to a- simitar place in the Wanganui office. He left to take up his new duties yesterday morning. His brother officers made, him the recipient of a handsome and useful present bctore ho took his? departure.
