MAORI LANDS SETTLEMENT ACT.

•GISBORiNE, November 20. The Native Minister, at a meeting of natives at Waiomatitiri on Saturday, explained the provisions of the Maori Lands Settlement Act, and asked the natives to give him land to test the Act with, and so obviate' putting the compulsory clauses into effect. He also urged them /to faiee the responsibility ,of the rates. The natives, in a sympathetic reply, eaid they were prepared to help in every way, and as an earnest they would hand over 1200 acres, being the 'balance of the Whataangiangi block. *
