PRESBYTERY.

The Presbytery of Warganui met at Marton on 10th October. Present:— Revs. Ryburn (Moderator), Doull, Gordon, Jolly, McCully, Hall, Budd, Hutson, and Morton, and Messrs. Simpson. I+reohin, Mcßeth, McFarlane, and Fleming, elders. Rev. I. Jolly reported that a new mission is to be started in his district, to be called the Pohangina district. Services will be held at Nikau, Collyton, Pohangina, Awahou South, and some other centres. The district is to be under the supervision of the minister and session of Feilding. The Presbytery will at once make application for a grant of v£2o. Mr. Norman McKenzie, a divinity student, will take up the work at the beginning of November.

The missionary from Mangaweka, Mr D. McKenzie, stated that a member of his congregation had collected £8 towards the purchase of .a^new horse, also that collections were being taken up in the district towards the erection of a ir.anse, and that a working bee hoped soon to have sufficient goods on hand towards a sale of work.

The report of Mr. Fleming regarding Taihape was of a most encouraging nature. A separate Sabbath school had been started in TaLhape. Very soon there would be two services a day in the township, and a new church was likely to be erected soon at Utiku, where attendance is very cheering. Mr. Fleming also deplored the amount of Sabbath breaking in some parts of the district. Mr. E. Leeson, of Rewa, reported that he had had three Sabbath schools started in his district, with encouraging attendances at each place. Revs. Gordon and Jolly reported on the presbyter."al visitations to Bulls and Turakina, and Revs. Hall and Budd on Fordell, St. Paul's, and St. Andrew's. The following were appointed commissioners to the forthcoming Assem* bly: Revs. Jolly, Gordon, McCully, Hutson, Budd, and Ryburn, and ekU ers from the congregations of Fordell. Marton, St. Andrew's, Wanganui, Fielding, and Bulls. The Presbytery, on the motion of Rev. R. McCully, nominated Rev. I. Jolly, M.A., of Palmerston North, as Moderator of the Assembly for 1906.

The Presbytery met as a Maori Mission Committee. Rev*. R. M. Ryburn, convenor. On the motion of Mr. McCully, a vote of sympathy with Mr. Sam Wopn (an associate member of the committee) in his recent sore bereavement was accorded.

The Convenor reported that five extra scholarships for the Maori Girls' School at Turakina had been granted by the Department. The balance-sheet shows that the funds of the committee are in a very satisfactory condition. The annual reports from the Girls' School at Turakina and the mission stations at Tokaanui and Taumaranui were of a very encouraging nature.
