FOOTBALL.
The first match of the New Zealand team's English tour takes place to-day against Devon County. Footballers generally will be interested to hear that Mr Dan Malone is manager of the Taranaki touring team.
A full muster of footballers is requested on the " Rec" this afternoon to give the Wanganui " reps," as picked to play Horowhenua, a good " go." By next week Taranaki should be at their best, and it behoves the Wanganui players to train hard if they wish to gain a victory over the amber and blacks. It is to !be hoped that a strong team of all-comers will roll up today on the Recreation 'Ground, and give the xeps. a much-needed practice game. Of course, the team to meet Taranaki has not yet been definitely selected, but will he chosen on the form shown today. I am pleased to hear that quite ia number of our best senior players outside of the reps intend to turn out today, as they recognise the necessity of those who are to play against Taranaki being given a good solid game, and they are anxious to see our reps uphold the reputation they have won.
