TURF TALK. By (Multiform. Bean Seaton, 8.1, reads well in the Ashburton Cup, to be run to-day. Tho Avondale J. C.'s Spring Meeting opens on Saturday next, and the racing should be interesting. Of tho nine left in the Cup the issue looks a certainty for either Putty, Akarana, Apologue; or Sir Gilead. Putty, or Akarana may win. At the same meeting General Average reads well in the Plunket Handicap.

Mr D. F. Roberta has got hold of a game little mare in Red Crass, by Son-iof-a-Gun—Cairitas. She won both the Shorts and Electric Handicaps at Marton with the greatest of ease, and has evidently a future 'before 'h&r. Another grand little mare that has not got on the -winning list yet, but will speedily do bo with average luck, land moreover should catch the judge's eye pretty oft&n, is Mr D. Buick's Hippodora, by St. Hippo—^Dorothy, therefore full sister to Lurcher. She is a •beautiful-actioned mare and <has only started twice, her maiden effort being in the Trial Stakes, when she was ridden by P. Roe, whose first race in public it was also. On the second day she came out in the Electric Handicap, and, ridden by Friar, was racing in the lead

half way down the straight where her condition failed iher. She should be prominent at Bulls, where she is in the Willow Bank Hack Raoa with the limit. The highly-bred Truce (Grafton-Nava-rine) miade no race of tine Trial Stakes, and she should soon work through her hack status. Another beautifully-turned filly I saw at Marton is Lady Warwick (TcrpedoLady (Lorn©, by Lochiel). She is slightly on the small side, but is a pretty and compact one, and if looks go for anything she should win races. Napier Hap'uka, by Te Hapuka— Lady Lome, therefore closely related to Lady Warwick, irs another likely one to win races in the near future, though want of condition is against him at present.
