AUSTRALIA BEATS MANAWATU AND HAWKE'S BAY. *- Per Press Association.
PALMERSTON N., Sept. G. Austx-alia defeated Manawatu and Hawko's Bay combined to-day by seven points (an unconverted try and a goal from a mark) to five (a converted try). Iho gamp on the whole was in favour of the Australians, who apparently i'oond the dry ground and perfect weather conditions to their liking. Their forwards were clean and clever in fept work and the backs seldom made mistakes,- handling tho ball very prettily. For the visitors, Wickham kicked a goal from a mark by Oxley, taken near tho half-way line, and McLean scored and Ward converted. Between five and six thousand were present at tho match.
