The average price to-day of Canterbury mutton is 4£d and for North Island mutton 4 l-8d ;for light weights. iFor heavy weights iSbhe average price for Canterbury mutton ds 4d and for North Island mutton 3 3-Bd. Laimb.—The market as quiet, and the "demand has considerably fallen off. The .average price to-day for New Zealand lamb, Canterbury brand, is s|d., and for brands other than Canterbury 5 l-8d and 4fd respectively. There is a better •deanand for ibeef. Supplies of American chilled beef .are. small. -The .average price to-day for hindquarters New Zealand beef is 3§d, and for forequarters :2fd. . , Butter.—/inhere is a general and active -demand for butter.- Danish, 121s; Cana--dian, 109s; Australian small " arrivals ' (new season's), 112s. 'Cheese.—* The market remains fu-Tn. .-Canadian is quoted ait 55s per cwt: ■«*'*" s, There is better demand for hemp.. The" price jof New Zealand hemp " good fair Wellington " grade on spot to-day is £28 10s per ton. For October-December ■shipments, £29. The average price of Manila hemp " fair currentl'", grade on -spot to-day is £37 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet, 1 tut holders are firm. The average price for (bright, clean, New Zealand cocksfoot seed 'weighing 171bs. per bushel on ospot is 535. The importations-of River Plate mutton and lamb into the United Kingdom for ithe month of August totalled 319,291 sand 15,138 respectively, distributed as follows:—Mutton: London, 122,141, Liverpool, 161,138; Newcastle, 13,485; Cardiff, 9136; Hull, 5457; Glasgow, 7163. The average price to-day of River Plate mutton is 3£d. The English top icrop is very large, .and of good quality, in consequence of tvihich the market is likely to decline.
