MARTON J.C.'S SPRING MEETING

ANTICIPATIONS BY "MULTI-

FORM."

Tho Marten J.C.s Spring Meeting— .always a popular outing with Wangamu -sportsmen—opens to-day, and as there is every indication of the present periect weather conditions being prolong,ed, there should be ft record attendance of race-going public at the gathering. Tho handicapper's adjustments have been liberally responded to, and ttho liberal acceptances received givo promise of an interesting day's sport. Tho club Jiave made a number of important improvements since last year, .and tho racing should in consequence ha much more* enjoyable to the public .and contestants alike. The fences at Marton aro proverbially stiff, and the Bunt Club Cup should provide an interesting exhibition of jumping. The to~ talisator will bo under the control of JNfesrs. Neylon and Spriggens, which fact ensures tho interests of the publio being well attended to, while the .general comfort of visitors will no doubt receive the same unremitting •caro from Mr. G. F. Bishop and his secretarial staff as in previous years.. Tho first event on the card is the Trial Stakes, of four furlongs, in which no less than 36 are engaged. Such a lot depends upon the start in these -crowded flutters that results can only bo forecasted with the greatest uncertainty. My impression is that the winner will como from Dalny, Sir Perciyal, Trace, Eruption, and Lady White. Ihey jmay finish — Sir Percival 1 Dalny •• • 2 Tho Flying Handicap should be an excellent race. The most favourably treated seem to bo Tekanui, Hukaka, Fancy Work, and Tupono. I have a .strong liking for the chances of TEKANUI and FANCY WORK. Tho Trial Hurdles, 1^ miles, contains 10 acceptors, among whom are some promising novices. Those I like best aro Numa, Black Squall, and Catspaw, .and of these 1 prefer BLACK SQUALL. The Crofton Handicap, seven furlongs, should be fought out by Seagull, Jseult, and Ngatarua, though the exAucklander, Loveiink, may be a good outsider. My fancy is for JSEULT OR SEAGULL.

In the Hunt Club Cup, 2^ miles, the -claims of Tarn and Haerekama are worthy of attention. Tarn won on the course last year, alid Haerekama is a likely sort for that class of country. Tho winner may turn up in TAM. In tho Maiden Handicap, I can see Tiothirg better than those I like for the 'Trial, namely, SIE PERCIVAL, DALNY, AND LADY WHITE. Tho Handicap Hurdles comprises a field,-and a fine race should result. Baltic, Moetoropuku, and Tyrone read •swell, and the best of these may be MOETOROPUKU. Tho day's racing will conclude with the Tutaemii Welter. Kuroki, Electric Gun, The Ruler, Fany Work, and Oryx should run .well. I shall select FANCY WORK OR KUROKI. Tho liuter a good outsider.

Tho attention of horse-owners is ■-directed to the racing advertisements «ou page 6.
