MASONIC.
The annual installation and investiture of officers of St. Andrew's Kilwinning Lodge, No. 79, is always an important Masonio function in Wanganui, and tho meeting last evening, when Bro. Robert Mathieson, S.W., was duly installed in tho chair of King Solomon, was quite up to the usual hign standard. Distinguished visitors were numerous, and included R.W. Bro. R. C. Hammerton, Deputy Grand Mason, visiting and local brethren, to the number of 150, including 39 Past Masters. A largo number of apologies for unavoidable absence were received, including one from the Hon. the Premier. Past Master J. H. Keesing, Deputy Grand Superintendent, acted as installing Master, and was assisted by the following officers:—Acting Grand Senior Warden, Bro. J. C. Richardson, P:M.; Acting Grand Junior Warden, Bro. A. G. Bignell, P.M.; Director of Ceremonies, Bro. I. Salek, P.M.; organist, Bro. A. C. Lennard; choirmaster, Bro. H. Neverman. The tools in the various degrees were explained by P.M.'s Caiman, Muir, and McNaught. Tho charge to the W.M. was given by Bro. G. S. Gordon. I.P.M. Bro. J. R. Foster, W.M., Tohgariro Lodge, addressed the Wardens, and P.M. Bro. I. Salek delivered the charge to the brethren. The folloAving officers were invested by Bro D. McFarlane. P.M.: 1.P.M., Bro. G. S. Gordon; S.W., Bro. W. J. Treadwell; J.W., Bro. A. M .McLeod; D.C., Bro. J. H. Keesing, P.M.; treasurer, Bro. J. L. Stevenson, P.M.; secretary, Bro. J. T. Muir, P.M.; organist, Bro. A. C. Lennard; choirmaster, Bro. H. Neverman; S.D., Bro. H. Price; J.D., Bro. H. Purser; 1.G., Bro. H Rice; tyler, Bro. T. J. Haines; S.S., Bro. G.G. Bullock; J.S., Bro. N. G. Armstrong; auditors, Bro. G. Caiman, PM. and Bro. T. W. Blennerhassett, P.M.
P.M. Bro. J. Stevenson read the ancient charges and regulations to the W.M. elect.
The ceremony throughout went sn-Gothly and reflected credit upon those concerned. During the evening Bro. G. S. Gordon was presented with a haneisome Past Master's gold jewel, suitably inscribed, as a mark of the brethren s appreciation of his efforts on behalf of tho Lodge during the last 12 months. Tho presentation was made by the R.W. Deputy Grand Master, and -Bro. Gordon suitably replied." The D.G.S. also' invested P.M. Bro. Keesing as Deputy Grand Superintendent; and the appointment was received with expressions of approval by the brethren. A special word of praise is due to Bro. H. Neverman. his orchestra, and choir, who assisted materially in the general success achieved. At the conclusion of the ceremony an- adjournment was made to tho lower hall, where . Bro. Dustin's representatives had prepared n sumptuous repast, to which those present did full justice. The usual loyal and Masonio toasts were honoured, and with music, song, and story, a very pleasant time was spent, the proceedings terminating about midnight.
