The Taking of Saghalien

Received July IT, 8.38 p.m. SYDNEY, July 11

The Consul's advices state that Admiral JKatoaka's squadron arrived at Saghalien at daybreak on the 7th. A naval detachment landed without resistance, and occupied a position previously determined upon, whereupon part of the army landed and relieved the naval detachment. Meanwhile the enemy's fort on a height south of Korsakosk opened fire, but no damage was done. The squadron and army occupied Korsakosk on the morning of the Bth, without much resistance. The Russians had burnt ; the town, and retired to a position near Solvivka, where they again attempted to resist. Being dislodged, they retired towards Vladimiroska. .We captured four guns and a quantity of ammunition, sustaining -nu damage.
