THE BIG SAILING RACE.
Owrn°" to numerous inquiries from all parts of -t-W colony with regard to particulars of .lite £25 sailing race.at Oarnival time, it was found advisabl^to call a special meeting of the committee ot the Wanganui Sailing Club, lhe lneetino- took -olaoe last evening at the Metropolitan Hotel, there being a good number of the committee present. Mr. W. R. Tuck .occupied the chair. Correspondence was read from Napier, Nelson, and Port Chalmers, inquiring for particulars of the Carnival race. Atter. eonsiderabledissussion the committee resolved that all boats entering be measured per the following, method:— Length on the waterline, 'extreme beam on the waterline, and sail area; depth ot boat not taken into consideration at &A. It was found that the Auckland Yacht Squadron rules of rating would not.be suitable for the Wanganui River lhe. distance of the course was estimated at about 10 miles—four _time3-round the first red buoy down the river, and the time given for the race was trom A o'clock to 6 o'clock. The Secretary was instructed to engage both launches tor the 27th of December if possible. The date of the next race was fixed for Saturday, the 17th December.
